Do You Make These Mistakes When Marketing Your Clickbank Marketplace Affiliate Products?

Clickbank Marketplace

There's no doubt about it...

Clickbank Marketplace has consistently been one of biggest producers of revenue for the "work from home" crowd for years, and will probably be around for a very long time. Unfortunately, far too many affiliates have jumped in feet first with little or no training, lost money, then disappeared just as fast.

And the worst part is...

If only for a little guidance and direction, everything could be totally different. Therefore, I'd like to share with you 3 of the most common mistakes I see Clickbank marketing affiliates making.

Mistake #1 Going For The Top-Selling Clickbank Marketplace Products

This my friend, could be the worst mistake of all, especially for someone who's new to Clickbank marketing or has a limited marketing budget. And the reason is because, the money lies not in finding 1 BIG selling product, but rather in multiple "above average" selling products.

Leave all that ferocious competition behind. You'll save yourself tons of frustration, time, and money.

Mistake #2 - Immediately Start Promoting With A Pay-Per-Click Campaign

If you were to do a Google search for your particular product, you'd find that the search results will display a small army of affiliates all competing for the same keywords and sending prospects to the exact same landing page.

More effective approaches are to put out a press release, write an article, create a "review" blog, recommend the product to your MySpace friends, etc.

Mistake #3 - Staying Only In The Internet Marketing/Make Money Online Niche

You see, everyone thinks this is where all the money is. Not so. You would not believe how much opportunity there is in the health, music, how to, or pain relief and stress management niches.

When you're searching for a Clickbank product to sell, take a look at the website. What keywords are used most to describe the product? Do a Google search to see if there's a market for it. If Google brings back 75,000 results or more, there's probably a market.

So there you have it, do just a little homework before you start promoting your next product and you will absolutely give yourself an unfair advantage over the competition, you'll enjoy it more, and most importantly...you'll make more money!

Make Money With Clickbank - How To Choose A Good Product In The ClickBank Marketplace

Clickbank Marketplace

Many beginners in affiliate marketing are lost and don't know how to choose a good product in clickbank. There are so many categories and products in the marketplace that they feel overwhelmed.

There are many tools that help you to find out what are the best product in the marketplace. Are these tools a necessity?

There are some softwares that help you to determinate if the product is selling well, the age of the product and the latest trend.

Some of them even let you find products in function of the amount of dollars you will earn per sale. Others let you choose the percentage you prefer.

I particularly like cbengine because you know the latest product added in the marketplace, and you also have many other time savers. Plus they have a free trial version as well if you are on a budget.

For example, if you want to find what are the best product in the 'health and fitness' category, you would find this information in minutes. No need to search manually. There are hundreds of pages and this would take you several hours.

Another cool feature is that you can use filters. Just choose the amount per sale you need, the category, the date added and you have all the related products sorted for you.

What tool I use to find best selling products?

You know, I don't have a lot of time, and I like simplicity. I do use cbengine from time to time, but I have another technique as well. It's faster.

I just click on a category in the clickbank marketplace and I promote the best selling products. If there is competition, that means that it's selling like crazy.

Top 3 Ways to Master the Clickbank Directory Search

Clickbank Marketplace

A Clickbank marketplace search is often the first stop for finding digital products, but any affiliate marketer who has attempted to find decent programs to promote via the Clickbank directory search interface knows this is not an ideal (or time efficient) method.

Those familiar with the Clickbank directory search know that the sort and search capabilities are very limited, and the results are sometimes not reflective of the query submitted. So, what are the alternatives to using the Clickbank marketplace search interface?

If we look at the basics, all the information we need is stored in Clickbank's database. We simply need a way of extracting that data so it can be organised and searched according to the criteria we set. Luckily, Clickbank are good enough to produce an XML feed of all their marketplace data for use by third parties. The trick is to turn this into a format that can be used by 'average Joe marketer'

Method 1: Clickbank Directory Search Using a Spreadsheet

If you have access to Microsoft Excel 2003 or later, you can simply download the marketplace feed from Clickbank, then import the XML file as a new sheet. If you only have use of other spreadsheet programs, then you might need to convert the XML file to something compatible (like CSV) first - there are numerous applications available to do this, but most of the ones suitable for use by those who are not 'tech savvy' cost between $50 and $150. Whichever spreadsheet you use, it is likely that the data will need some manipulation before you can even begin to analyze it. The information may be duplicated and headings often contain additional characters, but once you have deleted the columns you don't require and renamed the headings, you are ready to go. Once in a spreadsheet, you can use filters to narrow down the selection criteria and use the find command to search for relevant keywords within that selection. This is a relatively cheap option if you already have the software, but can be time consuming and needs to be repeated each time the feed file is updated.

Method 2: Clickbank Marketplace Search Via a Web Based Interface

PHP scripts are available which carry out a clickbank directory search from the XML feed and present the results in a web browser for analysis. If you have one of these installed on your own server, then a lot of the problems encountered in method 1 are automated (the script can be set to automatically update the feed file, and XML conversion is done in the background, as the data is parsed into tabular form).

Some sites offer this kind of interface to registered users. Limited search capabilities are offered for free and the more advanced options are offered on a subscription basis (either pay per query or a time limited subscription). Free options are usually based on data which is already a couple of weeks old, so unless you are happy to pay an ongoing subscription, the other methods are more suitable for those looking for hot new products that have not yet saturated the market.

Method 3: Clickbank Directory Search Using Purpose Built Software

This is the easiest method I have found for conducting a Clickbank marketplace search. Software is available for between $60 and $100 and completely automates the process. You are not tied to installing scripts on a server or paying a subscription. All the search options available in the spreadsheet method (and more besides) can be accessed from one simple to use interface. The better quality programs can also automatically create the relevant hoplinks (higher end software will also create an html file with the link encrypted to help you fend off commission thieves). Some are even capable of creating 'contextual' ads, based on your own Clickbank directory search criteria, that look similar to adsense, but with the added bonus of much greater earning potential.

This article should have provided you with enough information to successfully search the Clickbank marketplace for the best products to promote. A video showing all 3 methods in action can be found by following the author's link.

Affiliate Marketing - Clickbank Marketplace Explained

Clickbank Marketplace

You want to add affiliate marketing as a stream of income for your home based business. You need to focus on your business and not be distracted by unfamiliar details. It is important that you need to be comfortable with the details of Clickbank, the most popular source of digital products for affiliate marketing. I am going to assume that you have registered with Clickbank and now have a nickname and a password. To become comfortable with Clickbank, you must understand the terms used by the Clickbank website.

Sign in using your Clickbank nickname and password.

Click the navigation link to the Marketplace page. You will see the Search The Clickbank Marketplace function box. You have a number of choices including:

  • category
  • all categories
  • business to business
  • health & fitness
  • home & family
  • computer & internet
  • money & employment
  • marketing & ads
  • fun & entertainment
  • sports & recreation
  • society & culture

subcategory - subcategories for each of the categories

keywords - you input keyword relevant to the product or niche you are interested in.

sort by

  • popularity
  • high gravity
  • low gravity
  • $ earned/sale
  • % earned/sale
  • Future $
  • Total $/sale
  • % referred

and type of product
  • all products
  • standard billing
  • recurring billing

Gravity is a measure of the sustained popularity of a product as measured by daily sales after adjustment for refunds.

Referred is a measure of the percentage of sales by affiliates. 100% referred means all sales by affiliates. 0% referred means all sales by the merchant.

Clickbank does not report the retail sales price for a product. You can get the retail price from the sales page.

Clickbank does report the commission percentage per sale as %/sale.

Clickbank does not report the refund rate for individual products.

Clickbank does report the $ earned/sale which is the net commission amount per sale after adjustment for the average refund rate.

When you search using the Clickbank search box by entering a choice in one or more of the criteria, Clickbank will return product matches. You can select the number of matches you want returned per search - minimum of 10. You receive the following information from a search:

- list of products ranked by your search criteria.

- each product listed includes the following information:

  • name and brief product description
  • $/sale
  • Future $
  • Total $/sale
  • %/sale
  • % refd (referred rate, this is not the % refund rate)
  • gravity
  • link to the pitch or merchant sales page
  • link to create a hoplink.

Browse the marketplace page. Make a number of searches for products in the niches you prefer. View some pitch pages and create some hoplinks until you are familiar with how the marketplace works.

You are almost ready to enter the marketplace with a Clickbank product.

Tips for Finding Profitable Clickbank Marketplace Products to Promote

Clickbank Marketplace

Clickbank marketers know the benefits of promoting Clickbank products. A huge marketplace with a broad, diverse offering, high commissions and all easy to promote with one convenient affiliate id. Clickbank is a great service. It allows the regular Joe to self-publish his e-book, software, web service or music without having to go through gate-keepers and pay gouging middle-man fees. In my opinion it’s truly the way of future online commerce and Clickbank has been the leader.

The tradeoff to the freedom Clickbank provides is that there is a lot of junk in the marketplace. Experienced CB affiliates have all had the experience of buying an e-book, shelling out thirty, fifty even a hundred bucks to get a twenty-five page manual in size 16 font choking with grammatical and spelling errors and the content suited for the beginner or the content useless. As an affiliate you do not want to waste your time and money promoting these types of products because a large percentage of your sales will end up as refunds. Refunds are torture to the affilaite marketer and can kill your business.

While it’s important to trust your gut instincts there are several parameters you can apply to find a good seller. First, what is the demand for the potential product? Use the overture keyword tool to gauge how many people are searching for content related to the product you might promote. This is a critical step. If there is no demand you’ll have a tough time selling the product. Granted, you may be able to figure out a way to cross-sell that product to a different market, but generally speaking, no searches, no demand.

Next use one of the Clickbank marketplace search tools to determine sales trends. Did the product come out with a huge upwards spike and then sink into oblivion? Chances are this product looked good, but was rejected by the market. My advice is to stand clear. What I look for in a potential product to market is solid upward trending sales… this tells me it’s a good product that is selling well. I also look for hot products that come out and in two weeks you see sales explode. This often indicates the super affiliates have picked it up and since their reputations are on the line the product is more than likely of quality. I jump on these and ride the wave until it becomes over-saturated with competition or the product runs its sales cycle. Some times you can find products that have been overlooked languishing in the lower ranks of the marketplace that can be great sellers, so make sure to do some digging and thorough investigation.

Furthermore, you’ll notice product listing will have a stat listed called gravity. The gravity number is an equation but basically the number equates to the number of affiliates actively promoting the product. I tend to look for gravity between 10 and 90. If the product is brand new and the gravity surges I’ll still likely try to wedge in and claim a piece of the pie. But a gravity of 10-90 is a good range. This means the product is proven to sell but not competitively over-saturated.

Another way to select a product to promote is by size of commissions. Personally I like to watch my money add up fast… making a couple bucks a sale just doesn’t cut it. As a general rule I will not promote a product that doesn’t pay at least $15 per sale and I love the products that pay $40 and above that have up sell products on their order pages. I promoted one a while back that brought in $60 per sale, but I was often surprised to see another $80 dollar commission on top of that as the vendor did an up sell.

Also, what percentage does the vendor give affiliates? I believe since we’re dealing with digital products with no hard costs of goods sold factoring in, the percentage the affiliate gets should be at least be 40%. It demonstrates that the vendor cares about their affiliate partners and respects their efforts. There are actually products in the marketplace that offer affiliates a paltry 1%. I don’t understand the thinking of these miserly vendors. Even if the 1% equaled my minimum required amount earned I would not touch the product, because it’s obvious they’re not a good partner who cares about building lasting relationships with affiliates. They strike me as stingy, greedy and clueless.

Check landing pages of potential products. Do they look reasonably professional? Clean layout, nice graphics? Even though there is contradictory data that demonstrates amateur websites covert better, I just don’t buy it. A nice website imbues trust in my opinion. Outside of aesthetics, does the copy read smoothly? Do you see glaring typos and grammatical errors? If so, there’s a more than likely chance the product has the same careless problems. A few minor mistakes that only an English teacher would pick up is likely not a problem. But big ones will turn buyers off quickly. Make sure the page is professional, the copy clean and readable and that the site gives you a feeling of being trustworthy.

Next, make sure the sales letter is convincing. Does it make you want to buy? Does it hook you? Is it hard to pry yourself away from the offer? If so, the sales letter will have the same affect on other potential customers and your conversion rates will increase.

Now to the two big pet peeves I have when it comes to selecting Clickbank products to promote. Nothing drives me crazier than a vendor advertising his or her affiliate program on the top of the page or drawing a lot of attention to it anywhere else on the site. I can live with a small text link buried in the footer… I’d prefer none, but at least at the bottom it is out of the way and only seasoned affiliate marketers will likely look there. But if it’s obvious, a customer can easily figure out that they can quickly sign up with Clickbank and buy the product through their own hoplink earning themselves a nice rebate. Your money and effort are wasted when this happens. I won’t touch a product that doesn’t respect the affiliate by making an effort not to glaringly advertise their affiliate program.

Next, does the vendor accept multiple payment vendors? If so, run away. You sent traffic via a Clickbank hoplink and if somebody has the option to purchase through another check-out service or the option to mail in a check you just lost your commission. In order for your commission to be protected the vendor should only have one checkout through Clickbank. Clickbank offers multiple payment methods, check, Paypal and credit card which should cover all customer needs.

Those are the parameters I use when hunting for new Clickbank products to promote. As said earlier, always trust your gut instinct. Some times nice looking sites with slick copy can be bad… I’ve found your gut combined with keyword research and analyzing sales data can lead you to successful, profitable campaigns.
